U.S. Navy Undersecretary Robert Work outlined the future of the Navy’s surface combat fleet Monday at the Cato Institute in Washington.
He discussed the current budgetary constraints and increasing the use of the littoral combat ship, a small surface vessel designed for combat operations close to shore.
Additional panelists included Eric Labs, Congressional Budget Office senior analyst for Naval Forces and Weapons; Ben Freeman, Project on Government Oversight national security fellow; and Christopher Preble, Cato Institute vice president for defense and foreign policy studies.
