The New America Foundation hosted a discussion Monday on the U.S. healthcare system.
Clinical physicians and policy leaders called for transparency and public access in measuring America’s hospitals and health care system.
Tennessee Rep. Jim Cooper (D) joined the discussion, stating that policies and federal exemptions have to be modified in order to save federal programs like Social Security and Medicaid. In addition, speakers discussed ways to improving the safety and quality of health care in America.
Other speakers included: Johns Hopkins Hospital Surgeon Dr. Marty Makary, former policy director for the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement Dr. Kavita Patel, and Lown Institute President Dr. Vikas Saini.
Shannon Brownlee, acting director of the New America Foundation's Health Policy Program, moderated the discussion.
