New Council Calls for Federal Debt Plan

On the eve of President Obama's State of the Union address, former elected officials released a new report on the state of the national debt.

Campaign to Fix the Debt held a press conference to release the report, "Our Debt Problems are Far from Solved," and announced the formation of a new Congressional Fiscal Leadership Council. The group is encouraging the President and Congress to make a comprehensive debt plan a high priority.

Speakers included: Maya MacGuineas, President, Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and Head of the Campaign Fix the Debt; former Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND); former Representative Jim Nussle (R-IA); former Representative Steven LaTourette (R-OH); former Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR); and former Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH).
