The interest rate on student loans will double, rising to 6.8% on July 1 if Congress cannot reach agreement on how to cover the costs to the federal government of keeping the rate at 3.4%. Both Democrats and Republicans say they want to move on student loans, but so far they can’t agree on how to do so.
