President Obama gave his third address to the United Nations General Assembly this morning. All 193 members of the General Assembly are invited to address the international governing body at the opening of its term.
The President also spoke about the Middle East peace process - as Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has said he'll seek full recognition from the UN Security Council, a move the U.S. has said they'll veto. The President said a UN bid for statehood is not the path to peace. "Ultimately, it is Israelis and Palestinians – not us – who must reach agreement on the issues that divide them: on borders and security; on refugees and Jerusalem," Obama said.
Both Mr. Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will address the assembly on Friday.
The President spoke at a high-level UN meeting on Libya yesterday, telling the leaders assembled to talk about the future of the North African nation “Libya is a lesson in what the international community can achieve when we stand together as one.”
