Oral Histories: Betsy Wade

Washington, DC
Saturday, October 27, 2012

When the New York Times hired Betsy Wade as a copy editor in 1956, it was the first time in the paper’s 105-year history that a woman had been hired for such a position. In this oral history recorded for the Washington Press Club Foundation’s "Women in Journalism" project, Wade recounts her entry into journalism, the male dominated culture she discovered there, and her determination to perfect her craft.
