Oral Histories: Roger Shimomura

Washington, DC
Saturday, July 9, 2011

As a child growing up during World War II, Roger Shimomura was detained along with his family and other Japanese-Americans at the Minidoka internment camp in Idaho. As he recalls in an oral history  from “Densho: The Japanese American Legacy Project”, he later became an artist whose work focused on creating pieces that examine issues such as ethnicity, race, and the Japanese-American experience throughout the 20th century.
