Panel Examines How Election Affects Middle East Policies

Washington, DC
Thursday, November 8, 2012

The Washington Institute hosts a discussion between former officials for the Obama and George W. Bush administrations on the way that Tuesday's election results will affect U.S. foreign policy towards the Middle East.

According to the Institute, conventional wisdom suggests that President Obama's re-election will result in a continuation of current policies in the Middle East, but, due to the evolving nature of governments in the region following the Arab Spring revolutions, some changes will have to be made.

Ambassador Dennis Ross served most recently as special assistant to President Obama and senior director for the Central Region on the National Security Council.

Ambassador James Jeffrey served as deputy national security advisor in the George W. Bush administration and as a U.S. envoy in Iraq and Turkey.
