Paul Ryan Remarks at Economic Club of Chicago

Chicago, IL
Monday, May 16, 2011

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) said that his proposal to overhaul Medicare would fight rising health-care costs by “empowering” senior citizens to “deny business to inefficient providers.”  These remarks came during a speech at the Economic Club of Chicago.

Chairman Ryan’s budget, which has already been approved by the House, would turn Medicare into a voucher program.  Democrats have argued that the plan privatizes Medicare and would end the program.  Other topics of discussion include the state of the U.S. economy and the federal budget taxes and national debt.
