Pearl Harbor Day Remembered

Washington, DC
Friday, December 7, 2012

On December 7, 1941, Japanese forces launched a surprise attack against the U.S. naval base located in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. To commemorate the event that drew the U.S. into World War II, the Friends of the National World War II Memorial and the National Park Service hold a Pearl Harbor Day Ceremony.

The Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral James Winnefeld, delivers the keynote speech at the event, which also includes the laying of wreaths at the Freedom Wall commemorating the 400,000 Americans who died in the Second World War.
