Penn State President Addresses National Press Club

Washington, DC
Friday, November 2, 2012

Penn State President Rodney Erickson, who has presided over the university as it deals with the child sex abuse scandal, addresses the National Press Club.

Erickson took over more than a year ago after former President Graham Spanier was forced out as a result of the sex scandal involving former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

On Thursday, Graham Spanier was indicted on charges of perjury, endangering children and other offenses.

Sandusky was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his conviction on 45 counts of child sex abuse. The 30-year sentence is essentially a life sentence for the 68-year-old man.

Erickson addressed how he plans to refocus the university after the scandal and change campus culture to prevent a similar incident from occurring.
