Policy Leaders Discuss U.S. Debt and National Security

Washington, DC
Tuesday, December 4, 2012

The Coalition for Fiscal and National Security discuss U.S. debt and national security on Tuesday.

Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen, along with former Senators and Chairmen of the Armed Services Committee Sam Nunn and John Warner, announce their core principles for fiscal and defense policies, which include a framework for averting the so-called "fiscal cliff" and goals for long-term deficit reduction.

They also call for a comprehensive review of U.S. national security policy and argue that technological advances and the changing nature of threats make it possible "to spend less on a more intelligent, efficient and contemporary defense strategy that maintains U.S. military superiority and national security."

Notable speakers include: former Defense Secretaries Robert Gates and Harold Brown; former Secretary of State George Shultz; former Treasury Secretary James Baker; and former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker.
