Pres. Obama Campaigns at Ohio Universities

Ohio
Wednesday, September 26, 2012

On Wednesday, President Obama traveled back to Ohio to campaign at both Bowling Green State University and Kent State University.

The President spoke at Bowling Green State University's Stroh Center.  From there, he traveled to Kent, Ohio and spoke at the Kent State Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.

Kent State is remembered for the 1970 shooting of unarmed student demonstrators by the Ohio National Guard, which left four students dead and nine injured.

Portage County - which is home to Kent State - is located in the northeast corner of the state and is home to over 160,000 residents.  Pres. Obama will be the first president to visit the county since Pres. Richard Nixon.  The last official presidential visit to Kent  was in 1912, during Pres. William Howard Taft's re-election campaign.

No Republican has ever won the presidency without winning the state of Ohio.  Pres. Obama won Ohio in 2008 by 4.6% and according to a new Enquirer/Ohio Newspaper Organization poll, he currently leads in the state by 5%.
