President Obama spoke at the annual convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars before heading west for fundraisers in California.
He addressed his commitment to the new generation of veterans coming home from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as issues close to Vietnam-era and earlier veterans, many of whom are approaching or entering retirement.
According to a press release, "up to 12,000 VFW and Ladies Auxiliary delegates are expected to represent the organization’s total membership of 2 million at the week-long convention."
In advance of the President's remarks, the Obama campaign released a video that "discusses the President's commitment to keeping our nation's sacred promise to our veterans. The video highlights a St. Louis parade organized to welcome our service members home from Iraq."
Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney will address the convention on Tuesday.
