President Obama Addresses Connecticut Shooting Vigil

Newtown, CT
Monday, December 17, 2012

President Obama spoke Sunday night at an interfaith vigil as part of his visit to Newtown, CT to honor the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting.  Before taking part in the vigil he met with the families of those who were lost and thanked first responders.

During his speech, the president told the audience, “We can't tolerate this anymore.. These tragedies must end, and to end them we must change ... We can't accept events like this as routine."

Friday’s school shooting caused the death of 20 children and 6 adults. The gunman also died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

This is the fourth time in his tenure as President that he has traveled to a city after a mass shooting.
