President Obama Attends Inaugural Prayer Service

Washington, DC
Tuesday, January 22, 2013

President Obama and Vice President Biden attended an interfaith prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral, Tuesday, as part of the Inauguration festivities.

The President and Vice President publicly took the oath of office Monday at the Capitol, after holding private ceremonies on Sunday. The Constitution mandates that the President be sworn in at noon on January 20, but tradition dictates that the public ceremony is not held on Sundays.

The Very Rev. Gary Hall, Dean of Washington National Cathedral, led the ceremony, and religious leaders from several Christian denominations, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism participated in the services.
