President Obama Awards Medal of Honor

Washington, DC
Wednesday, May 16, 2012

President Obama awarded U.S. Army Specialist Leslie Sabo Jr. with the Medal of Honor for his actions in combat during the Vietnam War.  He was killed in action in 1970 while serving as a rifleman in Cambodia during that war.

According to the White House, Sabo is receiving the award because of his “conspicuous gallantry” and “heroic actions in combat”.  Specialist Sabo’s widow, Rose Mary Sabo-Brown and his brother, George Sabo, joined the President and First Lady at the ceremony in the White House East Room.
