President Obama Hosts Leaders of Mexico, Canada

Washington, DC
Monday, April 2, 2012

President Obama hosted a North American summit with Canadian Prime Minister Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon Monday afternoon.

During the news conference Obama touted, what he called, improved trade relations between the bordering nations. The leaders also fielded questions from media about trade, security and more.

A larger Summit of the Americas will be held in April.

Mexico will hold presidential elections in July, so this will be the last summit for Calderon, who is term-limited.

The last summit between the three leaders took place in Guadalajara, Mexico in August 2009.  A planned summit last year was postponed after one of Calderon's top cabinet members died in a helicopter crash in Mexico.
