President Obama Meets with Australian Prime Minister

In the Oval Office following a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, President Obama said he had authorized an additional $15 million in humanitarian aid to Libya.  President Obama and Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard met  to talk about U.S-Australia relations on the 60th anniversary of the two countries’ alliance.  Prime Minister Gillard is scheduled to speak before a joint session of Congress on Wednesday. 

After their meeting, the two leaders traveled to a high school in Arlington, Virginia to speak with students about the U.S. relationship with Australia, and the importance of education.  Prime Minister Gillard is a former Minister of Education of her country.
