President Obama Speaks at 31st Annual Peace Officers Memorial Service

Washington, DC
Tuesday, May 15, 2012

President Obama provided remarks at the 31st annual Peace Officers’ Memorial Service in Washington. The ceremony is part of Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week.

President John. F. Kennedy first signed a proclamation in 1962 designating May 15th as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day.   This ceremony honors law enforcement officials who were killed in the line of duty in the previous year.  House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano were also in attendance.  This event was held on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol.
