President Obama Supports Senate-passed Payroll Tax Cut

President Obama remarks

Washington, DC
Saturday, December 17, 2011

President Obama made remarks at a last-minute news conference. He spoke shortly after the Senate concluded its business for the year, including passing a $915 billion government funding bill, a short-term extension of the payroll tax cut and a measure forcing the President to decide on the Keystone oil pipeline within 90 days.

The President said the payroll tax cut “makes a real difference" for middle class families. He thanked Congress for the two-month extension but said it needs "to extend this further 'til the end of the year" when Congress returns in January.
