ProPublica Investigates the College Debt Crisis

Washington, DC
Monday, November 12, 2012

Most students graduate with over $26,600 in debt and parents are being saddled with student loans that cannot afford to repay, according to a recent report by online news organization ProPublica. ProPublica hosted a panel discussion on the college debt situation.

Academics, advocacy group representatives and journalists examined student loan debt and its impact on both students and parents. The panel also focused on how families can make better decisions about financial aid and what colleges and the government could do to ease the debt situation.

The panel featured ProPublica Education Reporter Marian Wang, New York University Vice President of Enrollment Management Randall Deike, FinAid.com Publisher Mark Kantrowitz and National Consumer Law Attorney Deanne Loonin.

NY1 Education Reporter Lindsey Christ moderated the discussion.
