This week on "Q&A" we meet Josh Marshall, the publisher and editor of the news Web site TalkingPointsMemo.com.
Marshall founded his site twelve years ago -- in November 2000 -- after the controversy surrounding that year's Presidential election. In the interview with C-SPAN, he also discusses some of the other stories that further helped to boost his site's popularity, which include: the resignation of Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) as Senate Minority Leader in 2002 after remarks he made at Strom Thurmond’s 100th birthday party and the coverage of then Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and his dismissal of seven United States attorneys in 2006.
Today the site has three million unique visitors per month, Marshall says, and has expanded to include additional web offerings such as TPM TV, a video based version of the news site and TPM2012 for election coverage.
Before founding Talking Points Memo, Marshall was the Washington editor of The American Prospect and a freelance writer for The Washington Monthly, The Atlantic, and The New Yorker. He earned his Ph.D. in American history from Brown University and received a George Polk award for reporting in 2008. He resides in New York City.
