Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL) Removed from House Floor for Trayvon Martin Protest

Washington, DC
Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL) was asked to leave the House floor for wearing a hoodie in protest of the Trayvon Martin shooting.  He removed his suit jacket and pulled on the hood saying, “just because someone wears a hoodie, does not make them a hoodlum.”

Presiding Officer Gregg Harper (R-MS) interrupted Rush’s protest and asked the Sergeant at Arms to enforce the prohibition on hats in the House chamber.
