On Newsmakers, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon (R-CA) discussed his efforts to prevent additional Pentagon budget cuts beyond the $450 billion already cut in the latest efforts to pare back the deficit. The Deficit Reduction Committee is meeting to come up with $1.2 trillion in budget cuts over the next ten years and defense spending is on the table.
McKeon said he would oppose the Defense Authorization bill, the bill that sets the roadmap for Defense spending, if it does not contain prohibitions against same sex marriage and detainees from being tried in a civilian court.
