Rep. Hoyer (D-MD) on Newsmakers

Washington, DC
Sunday, November 6, 2011

House Minority Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD), joined Newsmakers to talk about the issues facing Congress and the Democrats. Hoyer discussed the work of the so called "super committee" and stated that he is "fully supportive of them reaching a conclusion, successfully." In the past week he stated that if the committee could not finish their work by the deadline of November 23rd, Congress could extend their deadline.

Rep. Hoyer also talked about his opposition to an upcoming vote on a balanced budget amendment and said that even though he supported a similar amendment in the 1990's, he does not think this is the time to revisit this legislation and does not think it will get the necessary 60% of votes needed to pass.

Other topics discussed in the interview dealt with the current C.R. running out on November 18th, voting rights and whether he thinks the Democrats can retake the House in next year's election.
