Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Republican Study Committee Chairman

Washington, DC
Sunday, July 10, 2011

On Newsmakers, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Chairman of the House Republican Study Committee (RSC), emphasized the efforts of RSC committee members to support legislation that cuts or caps spending, and requires the Federal Government to balance its budget.

Some RSC members sent a letter to House leadership calling for them to sign onto this “cut, cap, and balance” proposal, pledging not to support any raising of the debt ceiling limit unless it contains significant spending cuts and caps, and includes support for a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.

Rep. Jordan noted that he believes a large number of RSC members will not vote in favor of any budget and debt ceiling proposals that do not include this approach. Rep. Jordan said that he believes voters in 2010 elected a Republican majority to the U.S. House with a mandate to address spending and budget issues.
