Speaking to reporters during her weekly briefing, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said the Republican plans for the continuing resolution and the debt ceiling, and their efforts to defund the Affordable Care Act, were creating a "manufactured crisis to shut down the government."
She called on the Republican leadership to allow a vote on the Democratic budget alternative, proposed by Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), that would "replace the sequester, create jobs and reduce the deficit in a balanced way," according to Rep. Pelosi.
She also asked the Republican leaders to keep the House in session in order to continue legislative work, including resolving the farm bill issue.
On Syria, Minority Leader Pelosi commented on the Putin editorial in the New York Times, which she called interesting. She added that she disagreed with him and affirmed that America is an "exceptional" country.
