Rep. Scott (D-VA) Holds Discussion on Preventing Youth Incarceration

Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA) discussed his Youth PROMISE act, aimed at promoting educational opportunities and reducing incarceration for youth through mentoring, early intervention, and more education.

Among those speaking in support of the act at the briefing were actor/author Hill Harper, Enough Project Co-Founder John Prendergast and other activists.

The Youth PROMISE act stands for Youth Prison Reduction through Opportunities, Mentoring, Intervention, Support and Education Act.

Rep. Scott originally introduced the bill in 2007. He reintroduced it in August 2011 and it was referred to committee last year.
