Rep. Weiner Admits Sending Controversial Picture

Will not resign from Congress

Washington, DC
Monday, June 6, 2011

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY), who is involved in a controversy over Twitter messages and a photo sent to a college student from his Twitter account, announced that he sent the controversial picture and takes full responsibility for lying that his Twitter and Facebook accounts were hacked.

At a news conference in Manhattan, Rep. Weiner told the crowded room of reporters “the picture was of me and I sent it” but said he would not resign his congressional seat.

Weiner said he "made terrible mistakes" and is apologizing to his wife, Huma Abedin, a long time aid to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, his family and constituents.

He also said that he has sent pictures and texts to six women over the past 3 years.
