C-SPAN's Road to the White House features two potential GOP presidential candidates speaking in early primary states.
First, we traveled to Des Moines, Iowa, for remarks by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN). She delivered the keynote speech Friday night at an Iowans for Tax Relief Pac fundraiser. Over the weekend, Rep. Bachmann conducted several meetings with GOP political operatives around the state to discuss the possibility of a presidential bid.
Next, former Sen. Rick Santorum's (R-PA) addressed a crowd of 200 members at the Aiken Republican Club's 2011 luncheon. This was Santorum's eighth trip to South Carolina. The state holds the first Republican primary in the South, and each winner since 1980 has gone on to win the GOP nomination.
Both Bachmann and Santorum are seriously considering a possible 2012 presidential bid, though they have not officially announced their political intentions. New Hampshire will hold the first-in-the nation presidential primary in February 2012.
