Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney addresses the annual conference of National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) in Orlando, Thursday.
He discussed how the economy and unemployment has affected the Hispanic community.
He also addressed his stance on immigration, which has been called into question since President Obama announced an immigration policy change last week. The new policy allows many illegal immigrants who entered the U.S. as children to avoid deportation.
Gov. Romney offered more specifics than he had in the past, saying he would work with a bipartisan congress to come up with a permanent solution that includes securing the borders, and eliminating bureaucratic hurdles to legal immigration. He said he would seek solutions that would allow immigrant families to stay together. Immigrants with higher education credentials would be allowed to stay in the country, he told the group.
The presumptive Republican nominee said he would create an efficient employment verification system so that employers could quickly verify the status of their employees and ensure that they only hire legal workers.
President Obama will address the group on Friday.
