GOP presidential contender Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) held a rally with his "Veterans for Ron Paul" coalition highlighting issues of importance to service members.
According to his website, active-duty military personnel contributed more money to Rep. Paul's campaign than to those of all the other Republican presidential candidates combined. During the 1960s, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight surgeon.
In an op-ed in the Des Moines Register, the candidate said "few issues are more distressing than the inadequate treatment our veterans receive," and advocated eliminating the so-called "disabled veterans tax." He promised he'd address the problem of military suicides and increasing health care costs for veterans if elected.
