The State Department released its report focusing on landmine clearance and convention weapons destruction.  Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the assistant secretary of state for political-military affairs, Andrew Shapiro, made remarks to reporters.

The annual report is titled “To Walk the Earth in Safety” and features a country-by country summary of progress funded by the U.S. Conventional Weapons Destruction Program.  This effort is led by the State Department, Defense Department, United States Agency for International Development, the CDC and Health and Human Services Department.

According to the report, the U.S. has provided mine-action assistance to more than 80 countries since 1993 and provided 1.8 billion dollars in financial support for the safe disposal of small arms, light weapons, munitions as well as removal of landmines.
