Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano testified before the House Homeland Security Cmte. on the President’s 2013 budget request. Her department would receive a slight overall funding decrease under the President’s plan, for a total of $39.5 billion.
The request includes $769 million for cybersecurity improvements and $850 million in various administrative cuts.
The hearing also focused on counterterrorism issues and examine DHS policies and operations. Under Chairman Pete King (R-NY), the committee will continue to press for an investigation into radicalization in the Muslim-American community and into leaks of sensitive counterterrorism information.
