The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee examined the state of retirement savings for U.S. workers at a hearing titled, "Pension Savings: Are Workers Saving Enough for Retirement?"
According to the committee, the estimated difference between what Americans have saved for retirement and what they should have already saved is $6.6 trillion.
Edward Moslander, senior managing director of TIIA-CREF; Julia McCarthy, executive vice president of Fidelity Investments; Cindy Hounsell, president of the Women's Institute for a Secure Retirement; and Brigitte Madrian, professor of public policy and corporate management at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government, testified at the hearing.
Sen.Tom Harkin (D-IA) chaired the hearing.
