The Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Surface Transportation held a hearing Thursday on transportation systems affected by Hurricane Sandy. New York Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez testified before the subcommittee on extensive damage to both state’s transportation infrastructure.
The heads of Amtrak, New York City’s transit and New Jersey Transit also testified on how transportation in the region has been impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Initial estimates show it will cost $5 billion to get the transit system in New York and New Jersey up and running.
