Stakeholders from gun rights and violence prevention groups testify before a Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on gun violence, including NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre and Capt. Mark Kelly (ret.), the husband of former Rep. Giffords.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords gave a brief statement at the opening of the hearing, urging Congress to come to a solution to prevent gun violence. "Violence is a big problem. Too many children are dying," she said.

Giffords was shot in the head when a gunman opened fire at an event she was holding in her district. Six people were killed in that shooting. She and her husband have formed Americans for Responsible Solutions, a gun control group.

Also testifying are Nicholas Johnson, professor of law at Fordham University in New York; James Johnson, chief of police for Baltimore County, Md., and chairman of the National Law Enforcement Partnership to Prevent Gun Violence; and Gayle Trotter, attorney and senior fellow at the Independent Women's Forum.
