Senate GOP Leader Addresses Conservatives on 1st Amendment Rights

Washington, DC
Friday, June 15, 2012

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) addressed the conservative policy group American Enterprise Institute (AEI) Friday on growing challenges to First Amendment rights.

Senator McConnell is well known for his opposition to campaign finance regulation, the McCain–Feingold Act, on First Amendment grounds. He also argues that the Health Care Act is an unconstitutional infringement.

Citing what he described as an "urgent threat to political speech," the Senator made the case for a renewed defense of the right to free speech and call on all Americans to unite and remain dedicated to defending the Constitution.

Sen. McConnell answered questions from the audience following his talk.
