We hear from White House and Drug Enforcement Administration officials who examine the problem of prescription drug abuse and discuss proposed solutions. In addition, we hear testimony from the community prevention manager of the Rhode Island Student Assistance Service who talks about the effects of prescription drug abuse on youths.
In April, the Obama administration released its plan to address the national prescription drug abuse epidemic and announced new Federal requirements aimed at educating the medical community about proper pain management. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) chairs this hearing.
