Senate Leaders Attend Weekly Policy Lunches

Washington, DC
Tuesday, November 27, 2012

Republican and Democratic Senators spoke to reporters following their weekly party lunches on Capitol Hill.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) spoke to reporters on the impending so-called “fiscal cliff.”   The Majority Leader said he remains “hopeful” that lawmakers can come up with a deal that would avert the tax increases and budget cuts that would begin to take effect in January.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said that now is the “perfect time” to solve the nation’s so-called fiscal cliff crisis.  He addressed the need for entitlement reform when it comes to a deal to avert the tax increases and budget cuts that would begin to take effect in January.  Minority Leader McConnell, along with other Senate Republican leaders also criticized Majority Leader Reid’s plan  to change the rules in the Senate on filibuster reform.
