The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) issued the September employment report indicating that unemployment dropped to 7.8%. The figures show that U.S. employment rose by 114,000. The lowest rate since January 2009.
Employment increased in health care and in transportation and warehousing but changed little in most other major industries.
Last month, the BLS August employment report indicated that the rate edged down from 8.3% to 8.1% with U.S. employment rising by 96,000. Employment increased in food services and drinking places, in professional and technical services, and in health care.
The BLS surveys about 140,000 businesses and government agencies in order to provide industry figures on worker's employment, hours and earnings in the United States.
