Special Inspector General Speaks on Future of Afghanistan Reconstruction

Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction John Sopko spoke about his recent trip to Afghanistan and SIGAR's Quarterly Report to Congress at the Center for Strategic and International Studies on Monday.

He discussed the questions that the U.S. faces about the future of the reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan, such as whether security will be sufficient to continue civialian reconstruction efforts after responsibilities are transferred to the Afghan government.

Special Inspector Sopko was sworn in on July 2, 2012 and has experience as a prosecutor, congressional counsel and senior federal government advisor. Prior to his current position, he was a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, an international law firm headquartered in Washington, D.C.
