Two years ago, when the White House released the first comprehensive National HIV/AIDS Strategy for the U.S., it set out three goals to be reached by 2015: reduce the number of HIV infections, increase access to care for people with HIV and reduce HIV-related health disparities.
A special session at Wednesday's AIDS 2012 Conference, being held this year in Washington, D.C., focused on solutions and challenges in targeting high-risk HIV/AIDS populations.
Participants spoke about political leadership strategies and community engagement aimed at improving testing and treatment programs.
Participants included: Nils Daulaire, Health & Human Services Department, Global Health Affairs Director; Dirceu Grecon, Brazilian Ministry of Health, STD, AIDS & Viral Hepatitis Director; Benedict Xaba, Swaziland Health Minister; and Thomas Frieden, Center for Disease Control & Prevention Director.
