At the opening of the Israeli legislature, called the Knesset, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Israeli lawmakers he would consider extending the freeze on West Bank settlement construction if the Palestinian leadership recognized Israel as a Jewish state. Following his speech Opposition Leader Tzipi Livni criticized the Prime Minister for his lack of leadership and blamed him for weakening Israel’s reputation in the world.
