Symposium Examines the State of Race in America

The Aspen Institute hosted an all-day symposium on issues of race and ethnicity in politics, media, culture, education and public policy.

Prior to panel discussions Executive Vice President David L. Cohen of the Comcast Corporation spoke to educators, followed by University of Michigan Professor James Jackson who presented demographics of Race.  Jackson is a professor of Psychology, Professor of Health Behavior and Health Education as well as Afro-American and African Studies.

Panel discussions on Political Factors, the Latino Vote, the New American Identity, Education, and News Media were moderated by Fox News Political Analyst Juan Williams and Jose Diaz-Balart of Telemundo.

Panelists included New York Times Op-Ed Columnist Charles Blow, Author and Political Analyst Leslie Sanchez, TIME Magazine White House Correspondent Michael Scherer, former Baltimore, Md. Mayor Kurt Schmoke and Chancellor of DC Public Schools Kaya Henderson.
