Two counterterrorism experts Monday said the Obama Administration’s expanded use of drone strikes may be undermining its overall security objectives in places like Yemen and Pakistan.
Peter Bergen of the New America Foundation and the University of Virginia’s Christopher Swift discussed the move from targeted killings to “signature strikes” which target groups of unidentified men associated with terrorists. According to Mr. Bergen’s research, drone strikes in Pakistan alone have increased from about one every 40 days during the Bush Administration to one every four days.
The Center for National Policy hosted the panel discussions.
