The 1964 "Daisy Girl" Campaign Ad

Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Saturday, September 8, 2012

On September 7, 1964 at approximately 9:50pm NBC ran a campaign ad for Lyndon Johnson. The advertisement, featuring a little girl plucking a daisy followed by images of nuclear destruction, became known as “The Daisy Girl Ad,” and is often cited as one of the most important campaign commercials ever created.

Louisiana State University hosts a panel discussion on the 1964 Daisy Girl ad featuring the actress who portrayed the Daisy Girl, the commercial’s art director and author of the book “Daisy Petals and Mushroom Clouds: LBJ, Barry Goldwater and the Ad that Changes American Politics.”
