Abraham Lincoln won the election of 1860 with forty percent of the popular vote.  Most of those votes would come from the support of Northern voters. How did the South perceive Lincoln after the election?  The director of the Civil War Institute, Peter Carmichael, addressed that topic at the Lincoln Forum in Gettysburg.
