Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood provided an update on the Administration’s high-speed rail program at a House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee hearingin early December.
The hearing examined the Federal Railroad Administration’s (FRA) management of the program, the status of rail projects and how the program can be improved.
In addition to the Secretary, representatives from the Department of Transportation Office of the Inspector General and the Government Accountability Office, state transportation officials and a representative of the freight railroads testified.
The FRA's High-Speed and Intercity Passenger Rail (HSIPR) Program has been appropriated to total of $10.1 billion.
